2001: Horror Has A Home "This Time, Terror Takes Control!" was the third edition of Howl-O-Scream at Busch Gardens Tampa. The event, which took place throughout select dates in October of 2001, was notable for being the first (and until 2008 and 2009, the only) time there had been more then one icon featured at the event. The event featured Torment, Mangler and Pernicia Gloom .

Haunted HousesEdit

  • Escape from Insanity (Crown Colony Skyride Station) - This attraction depicted the Sunny Meadows Asylum, where staff took pride in their innovative approach to rehabilitation.
  • Screaming Reality (Bird Gardens Pavilion) - A journey inside the television, with everybody's favorite reality TV shows portrayed horrifically.
  • Night Stalkers in 3-D (Nairobi Pavilion) - An alternate realm in a 3-D setting.
  • Creeper's Crypt (Curiosity Caverns) - A dark and solemn crypt.
  • The Curse of King Tut's Tomb (Tut's Tomb) - A vividly Egyptian Haunted House set in King Tut's Tomb.

Scare ZonesEdit

  • Jungle of Doom (Myombe Reserve) - A jungle-themed scare zone replacing the outdoor Haunted House from the prior year.
  • Inferno Express (Nairobi Train Station) - Based on an evil train yard.
  • Grisly Gardens (Congo) - The gardens came alive to take revenge for being long-forgotten.

  • RIP TV (Das Festhaus) - The Evil Gor E. Decay brought together a load of blood and gore along with freakish performers, all being broadcast live on RIP TV.
  • Fiends (Stanleyville Theater) - In this show, Dr. Freakenstein and his mischievous nurses prepared to bring Frankenstein's Monster to life.

Notable FactsEdit

  • The first and only time in HOS Tampa's history that the scarezones were kept "hidden". As such, they were not listed on event maps, and therefore surprised guests walking through unexpected pathways.
  • The first time in HOS history in which there was more then one icon featured at the event.
  • The 9/11 terror attacks affected the event in some ways. The original slogan "This Time, Terror Takes Control!" had to be changed to "Horror has a Home" prior to the start of the event, some blood and gore had to be toned down, and the character icon of Pernicia Gloom had to be checked to make sure she did not appear overly violent or sexual.
